Sustainable building is playing an ever increasing role within the construction industry.
This has led to revised Green Star® credit points for reinforcing steel, developed by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).
Previous Green Star® steel credit points
• Two (2) points were granted for recycled steel content of reinforcing steel.
New Green Star® steel credit points
• 1 point - at least 60% of the steel is made using an energy reduction process
• 1 point - at least 15% of the reinforcing steel is used for off site optimal fabrication techniques. For example:
• 500PLUS® BAMTEC®
• 500PLUS® PREFAB
• ONEMESH®
Pre-requisites to the new Green Star® Steel Credit Points;
• Your steel supplier must have a valid Environmental Management System in place
• Your steel supplier must be a member of the World Steel Association’s Climate Action Programme; and
• Minimum strength grade of steel must be used.

OneSteel Reinforcing can provide the complete documentation required to enable a grant of up to two (2) points under the revised Green Star® Steel Credit Points.
